Introducing the “Accounta-Bella Buddy” System

New Year's “Accounta-Bella Buddy” system

A dynamic duo, typically friends or colleagues, who attend our dance classes together and have developed a regular routine of connecting & celebrating through dance!

With 2016 right around the corner and New Year’s Fitness Resolutions in tow, there are some important factors to take into consideration for long-term success.

If there were a way to double your chances of fitness success, would you be interested? How about a technique to make exercise more fun? A tool that automatically creates space and time in your busy schedule for workouts? A proven way to help you out of a rut or through a plateau?

It may all sound too good to be true, but countless fitness seekers have found that the right workout buddy, or what we call your “Accounta-Bella Buddy,” can do all that and more! Dance buddies can help you stay committed to your fitness goals AND have fun. Here are just a few of the benefits you will find by teaming up with that partner in crime, and WHY it works!

Accountability

You’re far more likely to actually work out when (1) you’re forced to schedule it ahead of time, and (2) canceling means inconveniencing a friend. Making concrete plans with another person means you’ll be far less likely to cancel in favor of the couch. This is the whole idea behind the “Accounta-Bella Buddy” system!

Motivation

In addition to keeping you accountable, friends can provide an extra boost of motivation when it gets tough. Everyone has those days when they just don’t feel like going to the studio, and when they want to call it quits, friends can offer encouragement to keep you going. Just be sure to return the favor!

Learn Something Wild & New!

Gyms can get repetitive and stagnant, so why not burn even more calories while challenging your brain and connecting with others? At Bella Diva Dance there are over 7 different styles & genres of world dance classes to keep you stimulated and busting a move!

Have More Fun

Having fun while dancing

Those who have hit the gym or fitness routine with friends know that it’s usually more enjoyable than going alone, and several studies have reached that conclusion too. One study in particular surveyed 117 people using their phones to ask what they were doing, who they were with, where they were, how they were feeling and more. The results suggest that people enjoy physical activity more when they’re with their friends.

Workout Longer

Time flies when you’re having fun…or at least when you are distracted! Having someone to chat and laugh with between glutes squeezes, lets you focus on something other than just your workout, making the time go by faster.

Interpersonal Support

The need for interpersonal support is primal, says Wayne Andersen, MD, cofounder and medical director of Take Shape for Life, a nationwide health and lifestyle coaching program based in Owings Mills, Md: “We are social animals. We seek the company and positive reinforcemDancing with friendsent of others, especially when we are doing work.”

Also, exercise partners provide a powerful combination of support, accountability, motivation and, in some cases, healthy competition. “They can play the role of teammate, co-coach and cheerleader — all while working out,”  says Michelle P. Maidenberg, PhD, MPH, clinical director of Westchester Group Works in Harrison, N.Y.

A few other fun benefits!

  • You have someone to text the next day about post-workout pains, because no one else will understand why you’re limping in the office!
  • You have someone to eat with after surviving samba, because we are dancers who eat! Chipotle? Yes, please!
  • You will look a lot less crazy if you can get your friend to do it with you.

How to Be a Fab ‘Accounta-Bella’ Buddy!

Build your active partnership with thoughtful acts of support like these:

  • Be in touch. Send reminder texts or emails, prearrange rides to the studio, offer wake-up calls if necessary.
  • Be on time. Always.
  • Push your partner, then reinforce her efforts with praise.
  • Suggest new ideas and routines to keep things interesting and prevent plateaus.
  • Remind your partner of her goals and encourage her when the going gets rough.
  • Keep tabs on each other through illness, travel and other routine-breakers. It will make it easier to get back on track.
  • Talk about topics other than fitness. The more you care about your partner as a person, the stronger your alliance will be. But don’t wallow in negative talk. It’s an energy downer!
  • Be flexible. Sitter canceled? Take turns watching the kids so each of you can exercise independently.

Tips to getting great-looking arms

Exercise Dancing

There are several things we can do, to achieve great looking arms. Of course you need to workout and exercise, not only to get toned arms but also to get a healthy condition. Today we share some advice to getting your arms into great shape!

Detox your body

Exfoliation and Cleansing

To begin your arm improvement regime, include regular skin exfoliation to help remove dead cells and smooth out rough areas. Keratosis pilaris, also called chicken skin, is a common skin issue that affects many women. Hair follicles can get clogged with excess keratin and make your skin look rough and bumpy. Dermatologists recommend using skin-sloughing salicylic acid products to smooth arm texture. Bumps should not be scrubbed away, so it’s not recommended to use a loofah, which many are tempted to do.

This can cause even more inflammation.
buy clomiphene online buy clomiphene online no prescription

We recommend using a washcloth instead.
buy nolvadex online https://blackmenheal.org/wp-content/languages/new/mg/nolvadex.html no prescription

Chemical peels containing salicylic and lactic acids can also help to treat keratosis pilaris.

Sun spots and dark elbows

Sun or dark spots in the skin can be treated with chemical peels or laser therapy that can help reduce their appearance and sometimes even fully remove these. Body makeup is a quick safer alternative to cover up any unwanted marks and spots. It’s is recommended to use skin lotions and creams that contain urea to improve the look of dark elbows. Urea helps dissolve and remove dead skin, which will improve the appearance of your elbows.

Arm flab

Consider some specific arm workouts to make a difference and help achieve getting toned arms. There are other options that are much simpler but more expensive like radio frequency therapy, which delivers heat into the skin to boost collagen production and then produces a tightening effect. When working out your arms, its a must to use weights like dumbbells. You can also use other weights like cans or bottles filled with water. It’s essential to add exercises; like biceps curls and triceps extensions. You can also add movements that don’t require the use of weights like arm circles. To do these: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and your arms extended straight out to the sides of your shoulders. Keeping your shoulders down, do 20 small circles backwards and then switch directions and repeat.

Start incorporating these tips into your beauty and workout routines and you’ll start seeing results soon. Read more on women health tips like what superfoods can increase your energy levels or what yoga poses can help relieve lower back pain.

Expressing your feelings through Dance

Why Do People Dance?

Dance has been present in human culture and history for centuries. In its origins, it was meant to be used as a way of communication for ceremonial rites and celebrations, mostly. Nowadays, dance is not only available in theaters and shows, but also can be found in media, schools, and even in a flash mob at the mall. Dance is not limited to people who want to become professionals; anyone can learn to dance any of the many rhythms, variations and at any moment of our lives. Through dance, dancers can express feelings and emotions, conveying a message to the audience. Today, we share with you how dancing can be used as a way of expression and how people react to this manifestation.

Choreographing our feelings

According to choreographer, Diana F. Green, dance uses the body as an instrument. In her book, Choreographing from Within, body language can be exaggerated and abstracted in dance to project an infinite number of feelings, subtle moods, and emotions. Many choreographers, especially those rebelling against what they thought was the overly dramatic early modern movement, have ignored this side of choreography and embraced only the abstract craft of movement. Green emphasizes how important it is to recognize both sides of the spectrum and enjoy, as an audience or performer, both abstract and literal emotion based choreographic shows.

Choreography uses the human form, and an art form that is connected to the human form will tell a human story regardless of whether you intend to create a story. Audiences naturally read emotion and feeling when watching someone move on the stage. Many experimental studies have been performed to find the core elements of movements that communicate different emotions. Some have included brain scan studies that show the different areas of the brain that light up when people watch expressions of emotions. One of those studies was conducted in Edinburgh, in 2010, by Peter Lovatt.

persian

Recognizing Emotion from the Moving Body

Dance psychologist, Peter Lovatt, of the University of Hertfordshire, conducted an experiment to determine how people convey feelings through dance and how these were perceived by the audience. Through an exercise called “think-aloud-protocol”, people were asked to watch lots of different dance pieces, in a wide range of dance styles (e.g. contemporary, Indian Classical, ballet, and hip hop) and instructed them to say out-loud what they were thinking as they watched the pieces. They found out that even when people watched dance pieces that were not choreographed to explicitly express emotions people still tried to make sense of the pieces and would often say things like, “Oh yes, he obviously loves her, but she doesn’t want to be near him so she’s rejecting his advances”, or similar interpretations.

He continued his analysis by making an experiment with choreographers and dancers where they would each perform a specific feeling and then document what the audience perceived. Read the full article 23 Feelings in Dance. He concluded that it was certain that we can recognize emotions when they are expressed through the moving body and dance.

Dancing is one of the most liberating and open ways to express feelings. Communication is not limited to words only, as movement is an important factor in expressing ourselves. Read more about how Dancing, as an exercise, can bring you amazing health benefits and more health tips for women.

The Big Fat Indian Wedding Facts

Bella Diva World Dance will be taking part of the upcoming Indian Wedding Festival on September 19. A South Asian wedding is the ultimate event and there are many reasons for that. These wedding are filled with ritual and celebration. Today we share with you some facts on Indian Weddings.

Things to know about Indian Weddings

Indian Tradition

Tejas

Still today, many marriages in India are arranged between families. Some couples do consummate “love marriages” in which both partners decide to marry each other without family involvement. Traditionally, and Indian wedding is about two families being brought together socially. Many wedding customs combine local, religious and family traditions between Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Muslims.

3 Day Celebration

Usually, an Indian Wedding lasts on average 3 days.

Day 1: a priest performs the ganesh pooja, a ceremony that happens at home with the couple only. The bridal party takes place too with close relatives.

Day 2: This day begins with the mehndi ceremony, where the bride and all female friends and members will get intricate henna patterns on their hands and feet. Later that day, sangeet is celebrated where the couple’s families are introduced and have a meal and dances.

Day 3: The main ceremony takes place, along with the cocktail hour and reception.

Indian Ceremony

The ceremony begins with the baraat, the groom’s procession. The groom arrives on a decorated white horse, or elephant even! Guests then dance around him to the beat of a dhol, and Indian drum. The bride and her family greet the groom and the couple exchanges floral garlands that symbolize their acceptance of each other. During the ceremony, the couple and bride’s parents sit beneath a canopy like called mandap. After the couple takes the saptapadi, or seven steps where they vow to support each other and live happily together, the groom then applies red power to the center of the bride’s forehead and ties a black beaded necklace around her neck, which symbolizes that she’s a married woman.

Indian Reception

Indian Weddings are crazy parties! The Punjab folk dance, bhangra, is a frenzied dance but fairly easy to learn. Western music will most likely be played as well. The food is an important part of the reception. It’s not always all spicy and vegetarian, it depends on which state the couple’s families are from. North Indian food, most common state in the US, will include naan (flatbread), different curries, samosas (pastries with spiced meat and vegetables), pakoras (fritters) and the desserts will include cake, kulfi (Indian ice cream) and decorated sweets made from nuts. Yum!
