Tribal Fusion Belly Dance is a modern Western form of belly dance that was created by fusing American Tribal Style belly dance and American Cabaret belly dance. Artists frequently incorporate elements from Popping, Hip Hop, ‘Egyptian’ or ‘Cabaret’ belly dance, as well as movement principles from traditional forms such as Flamenco, Kathak, Odissi, and other folkloric and classical dance styles.
“ATS Fat Chance Belly Dance Style” refers to a specific style of belly dance, also known as “FCBD Style”, which stands for “FatChanceBellyDance Style” – essentially a group improvisational dance form created by Carolena Nericcio, drawing inspiration from various folkloric dances across the Middle East, North Africa, Spain, and India.

Beginner & Int/Adv Fusion
In these classes, students will be introduced to beginner level techniques of fusion belly dance learning the foundational roots of Egyptian folkloric and Raqs Sharqi movements and then combining these techniques with a fusion of dance forms derived from different cultures and time periods including hip-hop, contemporary, and classical Indian dance styles. Introduction of props including zills, veil, and sword is also explored. No belly dance experience is required. In the Int/Adv class students begin drilling more challenging technique made up of layering different body movements while also exploring musicality and rhythm dynamics.
ATS Fat Chance Belly Dance Style
The core feature of FCBD style is the ability to improvise together as a group, with dancers relying on visual cues and a shared understanding of movement patterns to create a cohesive performance.
