NEW Class Offering: Classical Persian Dance

5 Reasons to Start Dancing as an Adult

We are excited to announce a new class offering at Bella Diva World Dance. Starting Sunday January 6th 10:15-11:15 AM, we will have a Classical Persian Dance Class for you and you are more than welcome to join us!

What is Classical Persian Dance?

Experience one of the world’s most enchanting dances. Persian dance is inspired by medieval Persian poetry, miniature artwork, sacred elements, animals, and geometry. Persian dance comes from an ancient culture of 8000 years and its movements often reflect the swirling of a birds, beautiful gesture and feelings, footwork patterns, and dazzling spins. Many great Persian poets extolled dance in their poems and used it as a symbol of the power of life and represented dance as a spiritual instrument to become one with the Divine. Persian classical dance is delicate, intricate, subtle, and full of meaning. Delicate hand movements, gentle upper body undulations, and facial expressions are the essential elements of this dance. The dance emphasizes feeling, rather than movement. The dancer tells a story, by displaying a variety of expressions.

This dance style is a fluid yet rhythmic dance form, which emphasizes the use of hands and wrists. The movement and positioning of the body reflect the rich and refined aesthetics of Persia. The focus of this beginner class will be on the shape of the hands, movement of the wrists and feet, isolation and coordination of arms and legs, and capturing the Persian aesthetics in the body line. Specific movement vocabulary will be presented and drilled in simple movement phrases that allow the dancer to integrate the technique and style into their body. This course is perfect for those new to Persian dance and seasoned Persian dancers who seek a foundational technique class to become more grounded in the style.

Tips to Minimize Cramping

Training Your Memory to Learn Choreography

Proper hydration and adequate consumption of certain things can keep you from getting cramps.

No More Muscle Cramping with These Tips

It is no secret that hydration is key to proper body functioning and a relevant part of a dancer’s performance. Even when you’re not thirsty, water intake should not be neglected.

Why Is Hydration So Important?

Your body needs water to work properly. Muscle composition in a healthy body is over 70% water. Water intake doesn’t only depend on you drinking water out of a glass or bottle, you can eat fruits and vegetables that are high in water, or add smoothies and soups into your diet. It’s always good to remember that by the time you are thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. With dehydration comes lack of balance and fatigue, and you might even experience lightheadedness and headaches.

Your Body Needs Electrolytes

Electrolytes are essential to several bodily functions. The ones our bodies need the most are potassium, sodium and chloride, supported by magnesium and calcium. Electrolytes are there to support your muscles during certain actions like when they contract and release. When your body lacks those electrolytes, you are likely to experience muscle cramping. An average person rarely lacks sodium in their diet but other electrolytes are often neglected. However, if you find that you are prone to muscle cramping, you should definitely be mindful of including them through various dietary sources.

How to Fuel Your Body Before, During and After Workouts

The importance of nutrition in dance

Your nutrition can make or break your workouts. Fuel your body right to get the best out of your favorite workout.

Keep Your Engine Going with the Right Fuel Foods

More energy, better performance, more muscle, faster recovery. Doesn’t that sound like workout heaven? You can live it when you provide your body with the necessary nutrients that support whatever physical activity you do. Whether you run or dance, here are some tips to help you give your body what it needs to perform its best.

How to Fuel Your Body Before, During and After WorkoutsBefore Your Workout

Healthy carbs and lean protein are perfect food items before working out. Carbohydrates will fuel you up on energy that will be released as you go through your workout.  Protein will support your muscle recovery after exercise, and will also keep your body from eating away your muscle when it’s looking for energy to burn. Oatmeal, whole wheat bread, brown rice or sweet potatoes, even fruit, are good sources of healthy carbs.  Egg whites, low fat ricotta or cottage cheese are some nice, light proteins that you can eat before you head to the gym. If you’re planning on eating something heavier, do so 2 to 3 hours before your workout, otherwise, eating 1 hour before is ok.

During Your Workout

During your workout, what matters most is to keep yourself hydrated. Drink a little water every 15 to 20 minutes and if you’re exercising for more than an hour, it’s a good idea you eat something after the first hour, ideally some quick-digesting type of carbs.

After Your Workout

Replenishing your body is part of the workout. When you’re done exercising, your body is in need of some good quality protein and carbs.

To make the best out of your workout, try to eat quick-digesting carbs and protein within the first two hours after you’re done and drink plenty of water.

Dance Strong in Colorado

To optimize your workouts, a good nutrition is necessary. If you’re fueling your body right, you will be able to dance stronger, run faster and move quicker, and you’ll still feel great once you’re done. It is in your body’s best interest that your eating habits are supporting its hard work.

Choosing Your Dance Style

If you are considering learning how to dance, we have several dance styles from which to choose. Maybe you already know that dancing is great exercise and lots of fun, or maybe you’ve heard that dancing is a wonderful social activity, as well as a challenge for the body. Whatever your reasons for wanting to learn, you must first choose a dance style. How do you know which dance style is right for you?

Appeal

If you’ve seen a type of dancing that you particularly liked, you are probably leaning toward that. Many people become inspired to learn how to dance after seeing other people dance, either on television, in a movie, on stage, or out on the dance floor. Before you enroll in a class, take a look at other styles of dance to make sure one isn’t even more appealing to you.

Goals

Consider your reasons for wanting to learn how to dance. Do you aspire to dance on Broadway? Do you long to be a backup dancer for Beyonce? Do you want to dance to impress your partner? Your dancing goals should help you decide on a style.

If you want to dance professionally, you will probably need to enroll in a variety of classes.

If your goal is to attract attention on the dance floor, a hip-hop class may be all you need. If you danced when you were younger and are getting back into it, you can pick right up where you left off. Some adults decide to resume dance classes after years of having had them as children.

Preference

If you don’t know what kind of dance you might like to learn, the best thing to do is to experiment. If you can’t make up your mind between a couple of dance styles, try a couple of classes. You’ll never really know until you try, so try and try again. You may be surprised what kind of dancing suits you.
