An Overview of Classical Persian Dance

If you’re not familiar with this dance style yet, we’ll give you the rundown. Persian dance is one of the most enchanting dance styles around and comes from an ancient culture of over 8000 years. It is inspired by lots of different medieval Persian elements, such as poetry, miniature artwork, geometry and even animals, which is why you’ll notice movements that reflect the swirling of birds, along with dazzling swirls, beautiful footwork patterns, gestures, and feelings.

Classical Persian Dance

Many of the great Persian poets referred to this dance in their poems as a symbol of the power of life.

It also represented dance as a spiritual instrument that helps connect and become one with the Divine. This breathtaking style of dance is super delicate, subtle, intricate and carries so much meaning in it. Some of the essential elements of Persian classical dance are gentle upper body undulations, delicate hand movements, and soft facial expressions. This is one of those dance styles that focuses on the feeling behind it, rather than just movement.

It’s about telling stories through endless expressions.

One of the main focal points of the fluid yet rhythmic dance form that is Persian dance is the use of hands and wrists. The way the body moves and how it’s positioned is meant to reflect the refined and rich aesthetics of Persia.

Our Persian Classical Dance at Bella Diva World Dance is great for beginners and focuses on several essential elements, like:

  • Shape of the hands
  • Isolation and coordination of legs and arms
  • Movement of wrists and feet
  • Overall Persian aesthetics in the body line

If you haven’t tried it yet, this is your chance! This dance class is great if you’re a beginner or a seasoned Persian dancer who wants to work on foundational technique and improve in this style. Join us with our brand new schedule starting on April 1st, 2019.
