They are joyous people and take every opportunity they can to celebrate life. New Year’s Eve in Rio is something else. Celebrate World Dance in Denver at Our Semi-Annual Studio Showcase

At Bella Diva dance, we’re kicking off the holiday season celebrating all things world dance at our Semi-Annual Studio Showcase.

When? Saturday, November 17th

Where? Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre

The Clocktower Cabaret’s own Naughty Pierre will be co-hosting alongside our Artistic Director, Caitlin Brozna-Smith at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre.

We are super excited to showcase over 70 of our wonderful students, who will be performing ‘choreos’ from their weekly group classes, which include Belly Dance, Brazilian Samba, Indian Bollywood, BollyX, Hot Hula, Bharat Natyam, Polynesian, Afro-Caribe, LaBlast Fitness, and of course, our Kids’ World Dance & Bollywood classes!

Save the date because this night will be jammed-packed with great energy and great performances that we’ve put together with much love, and cannot wait for you to be part of this experience. If you love dance, you won’t want to miss out on amazing show!

Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the show starts at 7:00 PM. Refreshments and snacks will be available for sale in the lobby during Intermission.

Your favorite Bella Divas will once again transform into the Dancing Dead with belly dancing witches, Samba “Zombistas,” Skeleton Malandro dancers, and Creepy Doll Boo-llywood ladies. Naughty Pierre will be the Master of Scare-a-monies, and there will be specially crafted witch brews from the bar. These performances are guaranteed to send chills up and down your spine.

Join Bella Diva Dance at the Denver Broadway Halloween Parade!

Join us during the second annual Broadway Halloween Parade hosted by the Broadway Merchants Association and City Council Lucky District 7. This community-friendly event will be on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at 6:00 pm, in the eclectic and funky Heart of Broadway.

Stretching from 3rd to Alameda along Broadway, the Broadway Halloween Parade will feature various spooky floats, bands, and marchers.  We encourage all attendees to join in the fun by wearing your favorite Halloween costume. At the end of the parade, all are asked to march in the street to bring our Halloween bash to a close.

Don’t Miss Our Classical Odissi Workshop with Anindita Nanda

November is coming, and Bella Diva World Dance is super excited to announce that we will be bringing renowned international Odissi instructor, Anindita Nanda, out to Denver during November 2018!

What is Odissi?

Odissi is an Indian Classical dance form from the state of Odisha, in India, and dates back to the 2nd century in its origin. It is an ancient, breathtakingly beautiful form of sacred dance, which was originally performed in temples as a worship ritual. Highly stylized in nature, it utilizes powerful, energetic footwork with graceful postures and movements to create an illusion of sculpture coming to life. Handed down from teacher to disciple for thousands of years, Odissi emphasizes, and in fact, centers around spirituality and devotion. The practice of this dance form rejuvenates the body, refreshes the mind and creates a positive energy.

Master Artist and Instructor: Anindita Nanda

Anindita is an exponent of Odissi and intensively trained under the lineage of the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, in India. She has a Masters in Indian Classical Dance and Vocal Music and is the recipient of several titles in India like NrityaShree, Nritya Siromani, high honors for dancers in India. For over 15 years she has been working to promote the dance through concerts, workshops, and lecture-demonstrations.

A much sought-after touring artist, Anindita is regularly presented by Embassies, Museums, Universities, Libraries, Schools and Cultural Institutions across the United States, Europe, and India. She is the founder and director of SoorTaal, which was created for the promotion and preservation of Odissi. She is also on the board of the World Heritage Cultural Center and continues to contribute through her work in preserving and promoting World cultures. She continues her work in establishing Odissi in the US and abroad. This is her 2nd time coming back to teach and perform in Denver.

Basics and Beyond: A Technical Workshop in The Art of Odissi

Students will learn the foundational practice and techniques of Classical Indian Odissi Dance.

The class will cover Choka and Tribungi Stepping as well as the following:
– Feet positions in Odissi
– Walks / Chari’s
– Hand Gestures Mudras – Single hand gestures and both hands gestures

During this immersive workshop, participants will explore the elements, technique, and expressive vocabulary of Odissi, one of India’s neo-classical dances. The form is known for its percussive footwork paired with curving movements and sculpturesque poses. Students will explore Odissi technique, form and vocabulary. Through excerpts from pure dance choreographies (Pallavi) and variations on walking and traveling, they will refine movement, transitions and develop a stronger awareness of framing and placement within the Odissi aesthetic. Anindita Nanda, one of the most accomplished Odissi dancers in the world will also touch upon history and cultural context. Students will dance barefoot. All levels welcome.

Join Bella Diva at This Years Colorado Brazil Fest in Boulder

If you didn’t have plans for August 10th, now you do!

Colorado will be celebrating Brazilian culture at Colorado Brazil Fest, in Boulder. Since 2009, this event has been engaging thousands of local residents in educational music programs and incredible performances. This is the largest fest of its kind, both in Colorado and in the country. You better believe it, because between 1500 and 2000 people participate in this amazing event every year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to promote and enjoy the richness of the Brazilian heritage, including its music, dance, and culture.

Take an exotic journey to Bollywood and beyond with Bella Diva Dance’s sizzling hot show! An Indian film genre, Bollywood movies are the exciting and over-the-top films known for elaborate dance sequences and original music scores. On May 4th, you’ll enjoy a parade of gorgeous, authentic Indian costumes, explosive dance, infectious sing-along songs and special performing guest artists including Nishita Laliwala, Monika Reddy, Shravida Ayaar, and Seemie Xavier.

But that’s not all! We’re also having a cocktail service and seating begins at 7 pm. Come enjoy a cocktail with us before you settle in your seat for the dance show of the season. A Little Background on Bollywood Dance

The name “Bollywood” came up after two other names were merged: Bombay (now Mumbai) and Hollywood. Based solely on the number of films and tickets that are sold, Bollywood is India’s largest film industry but as the name grew popular, it started being used to refer to the whole South Asian film culture. When Bollywood films started, all dance numbers were based on Indian classical and folk dances only. But after the 60s, this genre started to evolve as it was being influenced by other dance styles. Now, Bollywood dance still has its foundation on Indian classical dances but it’s certainly a fusion of many dance styles.

We are so excited to be bringing Naughty Pierre with us to co-host our showcase along with our Artistic Director, Caitlin Brozna-Smith, at the D.L. Parson’s Theater, part of the Northglenn Arts Center.

We are thrilled to showcase over 60 of our students who will be performing choreographies from their weekly group classes including Belly Dance, Brazilian Samba, Indian Bollywood, BollyX, Hot Hula, Polynesian, Afro-Caribe, Bharat Natyam, Latin Ballroom, and our Kids’ World Dance & Bollywood classes!
