The dance which Americans know as “belly dance” has gone by many names. The French who invented the dance named it “dance du ventre,” or dance of the stomach. It is known in Greece as the cifte telli (also the name of a Turkish rhythm), in Turkey as “rakkase” and in Egypt as “Raks Sharki.” Middle Easterners also call it “danse orientale” to distinguish it from the “balady,” or country, dance. It developed through the influence of many different areas and continues its long process of development today.

Samba

Beginner: Tues 6:30pm-7:30pm

Beginner: Thur 6:30pm-7:30pm

Int/Adv: Thur 7:45pm-8:45pm

A very energetic solo dance! It is the sensual & fast paced street dancing typically seen in Rio during Carnival season. The specific style Samba no pe literally means “samba of the feet” and is a solo form of samba, as opposed to ballroom style, Samba Gafieira. Samba is for everyone and you will learn to find your own personal beat & rhythm to the infectious samba music.

The Bella Diva Experience

Our goal is to bring culturally diverse dances from all over the world and share them with the Denver community. Dance is a universal language, and it offers a great way to learn about other cultures and traditions. Not only do we have Belly Dance, Samba, and Afro-Caribe classes, but we offer a great variety of dance classes with different rhythms, from the more relaxed Yoga for Dancers class to the energetic Bollywood style dance. Feel free to contact us for more information. We love all of these styles of dance, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy them, too.

Our studio is going to be closed Thursday, December 22, through Thursday Jan 5, with all classes resuming Sunday, January 8, 2017.
