Bella Diva Bootcamp Sampler Day! – Sunday, July 2nd, 12:30-4 PM

You have spoken and we have listened. At Bella Diva Dance School, we offer a wide array of exciting world dance classes and if you have ever wanted to check them all out, now is your chance. Sunday, July 2nd, will be your day to sample them ALL in a four-hour workshop setting that we’ve titled the Bella Diva Bootcamp. We will off15-minuteute mini-lessons of every class we offer. Only $15.00 for 3.5 hours of dancing (a $60 value), from Belly Dance, to Samba, Bollywood, BollyX, Latin Ballroom. Hula, Afro-Caribe, Middle Eastern Drumming, and Yoga. With this approach, you will be able to find what dance you connect with and sets your dance soul on fire. Come dance with us and bring a friend. Don’t worry, snacks and water will be provided so you can keep your energy level up and burn the dance floor.

This Carnaval-inspired night will be filled with Samba, lively music, world dance performances, brightly feathered beauties, traditional Caipirinha cocktails, audience trivia games, & a samba lesson.

Sensitivity to, knowledge of, or talent for music. A musical person has the ability to perceive differences in aspects of music including pitch, rhythm and harmonies.

Basically, musicality is the ability to relate to a piece of music and be receptive to it and all its elements, while being able to connect to the music and interpret it through dance.

So, how do you sharpen your ear to better develop your sense of musicality and start creating more inspired movement choices? Here’s how.

Fathom Music And What It’s Made Out Of

Music is the key to developing good musicality. You should be able to recognize all of the parts of a song.

Listen carefully for these elements:

Pace: Is the pace constant? Is it fast, slow, or medium?

Rhythm: How is the rhythm structured?

Instruments: You don’t need to be a musician to be a musical dancer, but it helps you to understand more about musicality when you can distinguish the instruments. Listen to recognise the main instruments in the song (various drums, guitar, bass, piano, flute…). How does the use of the instruments vary?

Melody: How does the melody fluctuate in the song? What patterns in the melody might you find at different parts of the song?

Volume: Does the volume build or drop at any point?

Breaks: When do you hear breaks or pauses? Are there any discernable patterns or melody changes that lead up to or follow the break?

Mood: Is there a particular mood in the song and does this change?

Lyrics: Can you pick up the lyrics? If you don’t understand them, can you find out what they mean?

Try listening to a song and determine which are the key elements to you. Then, listen to the song again, but this time, pay attention to one element at a time and try to block out everything else.

Follow An 8-Count

An 8-count is the most basic way to break down the structure of music for choreographed dances, except for the waltz. If you’re new this, first learn how to identify where the count is by counting the beats that give rhythm to a song.

Freestyle dancing allows you to move however you want. Just be spontaneous. When you improvise, you have to grab on to certain elements of a song, at random, and interpret them. This exercise will help you feel free and follow your instinct when approaching music.

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NYC conducted a 21-year study on senior citizens who were 75 and older. The purpose of the study was to test the effects that certain recreational activities have on mental acuity in aging. While doing this, they discovered that some of the activities did have a pretty significant positive impact, while some others had no impact at all.

There was one important exception: the only physical activity to offer protection against dementia was frequent dancing.

Make a list of the fundamental body parts used for dancing – for example, shoulders, wrists, fingers, thighs, toes, core, etc. As you read the list, try to move the specific body part you’re reading. Although this might sound all too easy, it works mainly on your focus (muscle memory, remember?). There are three key things to work on:

Why Student Showcases Are So Important For Community & Confidence Building

Student showcases are a wonderful way for families and friends of the dancers to come together and encourages feelings of mutual support and pride. Performing can be a wonderful experience, but at the same time, it can be scary! Our commitment at Bella Diva Dance is to ensure that the experience is as rewarding as possible with a special team mentality. Every experience (good and bad!) will teach us something, and patience, encouragement, and support on all sides are important. Practice makes perfect, and performing isn’t any different. The more one does it, the more relaxed one will become on stage or in front of other people. Everyone will always feel nervous or get “butterflies” in their stomach before going on, but her/his performance will eventually become more relaxed and confident. Ultimately, the confidence you gain from performing will spill over into other areas of your life… sometimes in ways that you don’t even realize!

Dancers build lasting memories and friendships with one another. Maybe it’s the work or long hours together, or maybe it’s because you’ve each given so much of yourself, but it always happens. Wherever you go, when you spot that other dancer in the room (and you will), you’ll know you have something in common. That shared experience is part of a rich history of tradition and innovation that unites dancers all over the world. And, because dance is tied deeply to the roots of our communities and cultures, dance builds awareness and appreciation of the differences and similarities between people. This makes you a better citizen of the world.

Bella Diva World Dance School is proud to present our Semi-Annual Student Showcase Saturday, June 10th, 2017, at the DL Parsons Theatre in Northglenn.

We are thrilled to showcase over 75 of our students who will be performing choreographies from their weekly group classes, including Belly Dance, Brazilian Samba, Indian Bollywood, BollyX, Hot Hula, Polynesian, Afro-Caribe, Bharat Natyam, Latin Ballroom, and our Kids’ World Dance & Bollywood classes!!

Doors will be open at 6:30 PM and showtime is at 7:00 PM. Refreshments and snacks will be sold in the lobby during intermission.

Special Guest Artists include Tim Merz and Booth Dance, Rafi’ah & The Sirens Orientale, and Georgia Michelle & Students.
